Why this site exists
Most articles about forming a US LLC are written by people who have never done it from outside the United States. They copy each other, they miss the details that actually matter when you have no SSN and no US address, and they recommend whatever pays the highest commission.
FormedAbroad is the opposite of that. It is written from the inside — by someone who formed and still runs US companies while living abroad, and who pays for every tool recommended here.
Who publishes FormedAbroad
FormedAbroad is published by Zyra Alpha LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. The site is operated from Southeast Asia, which is exactly the situation most of our readers are in: running a US business entity without living in the United States.
That is not a marketing angle. It is the daily reality behind every guide on this site — the same time zones, the same verification hurdles, the same paperwork.
What we have actually done
- Formed Wyoming LLCs as a non-resident — including the registered agent selection, the filing, and the annual compliance that follows.
- Obtained an EIN without an SSN — through the fax method, with the real waiting times documented rather than the optimistic ones repeated online.
- Opened US business banking from abroad — including a Mercury account, with the documentation each provider actually asks a foreign owner for.
- Maintained a US business address and mail handling — the part almost every guide treats as an afterthought, and the part that causes the most problems in practice.
When an article here says a process takes a certain number of days, or that a provider asks for a specific document, it is because that is what happened — not because a competitor’s article said so.
How we test and recommend
Our rules are simple and we hold ourselves to them:
- We pay for what we recommend. No free press accounts, no vendor-supplied talking points.
- We say when a tool is wrong for you. Every provider has a profile it does not fit. Hiding that would make the recommendations worthless.
- We show the real cost. Including renewal pricing, state fees, and the add-ons that appear at checkout.
- We test the non-resident path specifically. A service can be excellent for an American and useless to someone applying from Bangkok or Lagos. That distinction is the entire point of this site.
- We update as prices change. Provider pricing moves. Guides are reviewed on a regular schedule and the update date is shown on each article.
How we make money
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you sign up through one, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
This never determines our verdicts. When a cheaper or better-fitting option exists, we say so — including when it earns us nothing. You can read the full details on our affiliate disclosure page.
What this site is not
FormedAbroad publishes tool comparisons, procedural guides, and first-hand experience. It does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice, and nothing here is a substitute for a qualified professional who knows your specific situation.
Cross-border taxation in particular depends on your country of residence, your tax treaties, and how your entity is classified. We will tell you what the process looked like for us. We will not tell you what you personally owe — no honest website can.
